Park Ridge Police Blotter for the week of June 21, 2012

The following incidents were listed in the weekly bulletin prepared by the Park Ridge Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.

BURGLAR Y TO VEHICLE

Two pairs of sunglasses were stolen overnight between June 7 and June 8 from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway on the 1400 block of Higgins Road.

A GPS device was stolen between March 1 and May 20 from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway on the 1700 block of South Greenwood Avenue.

An undisclosed amount of cash, a debit card, drivers license and identification were stolen the morning of June 13 from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway on the 2200 block of North Parkside Drive.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Shariah Mendoza, 26, of the 7700 block of North Harlem Avenue, Niles, was charged with criminal damage to property June 12 after she allegedly kicked and damaged the side of a vehicle belonging to a 37-year-old Park Ridge man. Police said the incident occurred on the 1600 block of South Western Avenue while the two were involved in an argument. Bond was set at $1,500. She has a July 17 court date.

Graffiti was painted overnight between June 8 and June 9 on a fence on the 800 block of Busse Highway, and on the wall of an office building on the 900 block of North Northwest Highway. The graffiti did not appear to be gang-related, police said.

The windshield of a van was broken overnight between June 11 and June 12 in a parking lot at the Maine Park Leisure Center, 2701 W. Sibley Ave.

A tree was pulled out of the ground overnight between June 8 and June 9 on the parkway of the 200 block of North Prospect Avenue.

Between June 11 and June 14, a piece of asphalt was thrown at the window of a home on the 1200 block of Crain Street.

THEFT

An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen June 13 from a purse inside a locker at the Park Ridge Community Center, 1515 W. Touhy Ave.

Someone stole a wrought-iron bench June 14 from the front of a home on the 1600 block of North Parkside Drive.

A wallet was stolen June 14 from a backpack at Centennial Pool, 100 S. Western Ave. The wallet contained an undisclosed amount of cash and a credit card.

RECKLESS DRIVING

Vladimir Foreman, 21, of the 300 block of North Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, was charged with reckless driving June 13 after his vehicle allegedly struck a pedestrian in a parking lot on the 1000 block of N. Northwest Highway. The pedestrian, a 49-year-old Chicago man, was transported to a local hospital but was reportedly conscious and speaking to police at the scene. Foreman was released on his own recognizance and assigned a July 17 court date.

DUI

Michael Desantis, 23, of the 1300 block of Elliot Street, Park Ridge, was charged with driving under the influence, failure to report an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and disobeying a stop sign June 8. A 19-year-old Park Ridge woman told police that at 3:20 a.m. she was driving north on Dee Road at Manor Lane when her vehicle was struck from behind by another car. Police said the driver of the second vehicle, later identified as Desantis, had walked away from the scene but was found 20 to 30 minutes later. He allegedly admitted to driving the car involved in the crash and officers determined he was intoxicated, police said. Bond was set at $1,000. He has a July 17 court date.
