Electoral Board to hear objections against Park Ridge Park District candidate

PARK RIDGE — The Cook County Electoral Board on Jan. 15 will hear objections filed against the nominating petitions of a candidate running for the Park Ridge Recreation and Park District Board.
Rick Biagi, a current member of the Park Ridge Park Board who is seeking re-election on April 9, is challenging petitions submitted by resident Joan Bende. Bende is one of two non-incumbents who filed to run for one of the four open seats on the Park Board.
“Her paperwork was glaringly incorrect,” Biagi told the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate.
Biagi alleged that Bende used a partisan statement of candidacy rather than the non-partisan statement that is required for this type of race; she identified the “city of Park Ridge” rather than the Park Ridge Recreation and Park District as the unit of government for which she is running; and left the date of the election blank on all petitions.
A call to Bende’s home was not immediately returned.
The Cook County Electoral Board is expected to hear Biagi’s objections at 1:30 p.m., Jan. 15, at the Cook County Administration Building, 69 W. Washington St. in downtown Chicago. The Electoral Board will be charged with ruling on whether Bende’s name can remain on the ballot.
No challenges were filed against Park Ridge’s mayoral, aldermanic or school board candidates running on April 9.
