PARK RIDGE — A Park Ridge man has been accused of driving drunk in connection with a one-vehicle crash that seriously injured two people just before Christmas.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on Feb. 21 approved two counts of felony aggravated DUI charges against Colin P. Garvey, 19, of the 700 block of Hansen Place, the Park Ridge Police Department said.

According to police, an investigation determined Garvey was driving a Jeep with two passengers at 3:20 a.m., Dec. 22 when he lost control of the vehicle on the 300 block of West Cedar Street, crashing into a tree.

Garvey was not injured in the crash, though his two passengers were, said Deputy Police Chief Lou Jogmen.

Park Ridge police initially released little information about the crash, citing the ongoing investigation and questions about how many occupants were inside the Jeep at the time of the accident. Jogmen said the three occupants were outside the vehicle when police officers arrived at the scene and witnesses reported seeing the two passengers ejected from the Jeep.

Jogmen said DUI charges were approved after police concluded their investigation and the results of chemical testing conducted on Garvey at the hospital were released.

“Both the investigators and the Major Crash Unit investigators wanted to make sure they had a good sense of what happened and that they had the right person driving, which they feel they do,” Jogmen said.

Garvey was also charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no proof of insurance. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 20.
