One of the rites of spring in Wilmette for the past 43 years is Loyola Academy’s Ramble.

On May 5, 565 guests made their way to the academy to celebrate the spirit of the school while raising $1.1 million exclusively for tuition assistance. According to school officials, about 30 percent of its 2,000 students receive tuition assistance, awarding more than $4 million during this school year. The school draws students from between 75 and 100 different local ZIP codes. The school counts about 25,000 alumni throughout the country.

“It is wonderful to see the spirit of the school is alive and well,” said the Rev. Patrick McGrath, Loyola’s president. “It is wonderful to have so many family members, friends and alumni that care about Loyola Academy.”

Co-chairmen Kathy Johnson and Jill Klusendorf oversaw a volunteer force of between 80 and 100 people who worked for the past year planning the big night. Forty-four students lent their talents in various capacities throughout the evening.

“It is just fabulous to have so many students involved during the evening,” Johnson said. “I think it adds a lot to the evening.”
