Brickton Art Center in Park Ridge was recently awarded a $10,000 grant through the Chicago Sun-Times Charity Trust’s Sun Shine Project.
The nonprofit organization was one of 44 chosen from nearly 120 charities in the Chicago region that support youths in education, art and civic programs.
“It is so exciting to know our education and outreach programs stood out from among so many worthy nonprofits for this grant money,” said Alyssa Kulak, Brickton Art Center executive director.
Kulak credited 5th Ward Alderman Dan Knight for informing Brickton about the grant opportunity.
The funding will be used to strengthen and create new art-therapy and education programs, Kulak said.
Park Ridge Mayor David Schmidt congratulated Brickton on receiving the grant during the Jan. 16 City Council meeting.
“This is really a great example of what can be done and what needs to be done by all the community groups in this town as the City Council faces the upcoming budget,” Schmidt said.
Brickton had previously received funding assistance from the city, but contributions to the center and to a number of other community groups were eliminated in recent years.
