Park Ridge Mayor David Schmidt announced this week that he will undergo hip-replacement surgery, likely at the end of this month.
Schmidt shared the information during the Jan. 16 City Council meeting, explaining that he would be absent from several council meetings during the next few weeks and wanted the public to know the reason why.
“I know people in town are sensitive about disappearing mayors,” he remarked.
Schmidt said he hopes to return to City Hall for the Feb. 20 City Council meeting, or by early-March, so he can deliver the “state of the city address.”
Though he will not be physically present at the weekly council meetings and Wednesday-night budget workshops, he still plans to take part in the discussions.
“My plan is to participate in as many meetings as possible, including budget meetings, by telephone,” Schmidt said.
