Park Ridge’s Citizens Police Academy accepting applications

The Park Ridge Police Department is now accepting applications for enrollment in the upcoming Citizen’s Police Academy spring class.

Participants can learn about the criminal-justice system, patrol procedures, criminal investigations, narcotics, firearms, defensive tactics, hostage negotiations, crime-scene investigations, gangs, dispatch, emergency-vehicle operations, neighborhood-oriented policing and more. There is also an opportunity to ride along with patrol officers.

Classes begin March 15 and will take place weekly from 7-9:30 p.m. through May 24. Participants must be at least 21 years old, live or work in Park Ridge, and pass a simple background check with no felony convictions.

Applications can be obtained from the city’s website, www.parkridge.us, under “News” and by clicking the Citizen’s Police Academy link. They are also available at the Park Ridge Police Station, 200 S. Vine Ave.
