Farmers markets: They’re not just for summertime anymore.
St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Park Ridge proved that when it hosted an indoor Winter Farmers’ Market on Jan. 28.
A number of Midwest vendors were on hand selling items like bread, natural honey, cakes, home-grown herbs, cheeses, vegetables and pork. Organics and crops grown without use of pesticides were highlighted.
The market was sponsored by Faith in Place, an interfaith organization that promotes ecology, caring for the environment and ways to maintain a sustainable economy.
Rather than pay to participate in the market the farmers were asked to donate 10 percent of their earnings to a fund that helps farmers in crisis.
