Maine South Hawkettes head to national dance contest this weekend

It will be a weekend of competitions for Maine South High School’s drill team and cheerleaders.

The Varsity Hawkettes will compete in the 2012 National Dance Team Championship on Feb. 4 and Feb. 5 in Orlando, Fla. The Hawkettes will perform in the Varsity High Kick and Large Varsity Jazz competitions during the two-day event at the Walt Disney World Resort.

At last year’s competition the Hawkettes took first place in the nation in the Varsity High Kick final, beating out 11 other high school drill teams.

The Maine South cheerleaders will compete in the Illinois High School Association’s State Final Competition at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Ill. The Top 10 teams selected from the preliminary competition on Feb. 3 will advance to the Feb. 4 finals.
