Washington student diagnosed with pertussis

A student at Washington School in Park Ridge was recently diagnosed with pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, the school announced.
The Cook County Department of Public Health notified the school Feb. 2 that a fifth-grade student had contracted the contagious bacterial infection.
Two seventh-graders at Lincoln Middle School in Park Ridge were also recently diagnosed with pertussis.
The health department alerted Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 of these cases on Jan. 25.
