The Center of Concern, a Park Ridge not-for-profit serving the elderly and low-income families in the north and northwest city and suburbs, announced recently that its former executive director is returning to serve as an advisor to the agency and an “ambassador to the community” at a time when funding shortfalls imperil the agency.

Michael McAllister, a past president of the center’s board of directors who now serves as its secretary, said that Schurder, who served as executive director from 1993 until January 2011, will serve as an advisor to current executive director John McNabola, who has led the agency since July. In that time the center has faced a decline in funding from several sources, including a mayoral veto of $49,500 in city of Park Ridge funds.

McAllister said Schurder will be known as the group’s “executive director emeritus” and will be listed on the agency’s letterhead. She also will serve on the center’s advisory board.

The Center of Concern’s offices are at 1580 N. Northwest Highway, Suite 310, Park Ridge.
