Guest conductors to take over Friday-night concerts in Park Ridge

Park Ridge Fine Arts Symphony conductor Barbara Schubert will be taking a break from leading the 50-piece orchestra during the Hodges Park concert series this summer.
Schubert said treatment for a medical issue will prevent her from conducting the Friday-night concerts, which will take place through July 27.
“In the long run I should be fine and hopefully able to return next year,” Schubert said in an e-mail to the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate.
Substitute conductors will take on Schubert’s duties, “so it should be a very exciting season for the musicians and the audience,” Schubert said. “They are all highly qualified conductors and I am sure that the audience will enjoy the concerts.”
Schubert has been the lead conductor of the Park Ridge Fine Arts Symphony Orchestra since 2003.
Pasquale Laurino, artistic director and conductor of the Racine Symphony Orchestra, conducted the first concert of the season June 22. The theme of the free concert, which was at Hodges Park, at Courtland and Vine avenues, was “European Holiday.”
