Sinkhole ties up traffic in Uptown Park Ridge

Updated: July 3, 2012 10:36AM

PARK RIDGE — A sinkhole has reduced traffic to one lane on westbound Touhy Avenue near Uptown Park Ridge.

The hole is on Touhy at Prospect Avenue.

No left turns from westbound Touhy onto Prospect will be allowed and motorists are being advised to avoid the area until late-June 29.

Marty Raye, a maintenance worker with the Park Ridge Public Works Department, said crews will begin examining the cause of the sinkhole and working to repair it at 6 a.m. June 29.

The hole appears to be about 8-feet-deep, he said.

Park Ridge police suggest motorists use Oakton Street or Devon Avenue as east-west through-streets in order to avoid traffic delays on Touhy.
