DES PLAINES — Lutheran Social Services of Illinois recently named Eric Draut, retired VP/CFO of Unitrin, as chairman of its Board of Directors.
Draut succeeds the Rev. Robert Rasmus, senior pastor of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Urbana, who served as chair from 2010 until 2012. Based in Des Plaines, LSSI is a statewide, not-for-profit social-service agency of the three Illinois synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Draut has shared his leadership and management talents with Lutheran Social Services of Illinois generously over the years. He has been a volunteer and has served as board treasurer, as well as serving as board chair in 2008-10. In addition, Draut currently serves as a director and chairman of the Audit Committee at Intermec and also as a director and chairman of the Audit Committee at TCP Capital.
Draut earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, graduating with high honors. He also received an MBA in finance and operations from J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
He began his career as an audit manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and prior to joining Unitrin, Inc., Draut was an assistant corporate controller at Duchossois Industries, Inc. and at AM International, Inc. In 2010, Draut completed a 20-year career at Unitrin, Inc. (renamed Kemper in 2011), serving the last nine years as executive vice president, chief financial officer and a member of the organization’s board of directors. He also held positions at Unitrin, Inc. as group executive, treasurer and corporate controller.
