Park Ridge events provide first taste of holiday cheer

PARK RIDGE — Looking to get into the holiday spirit? A number of events are scheduled around Park Ridge to help with just that. Here are some that are coming up in the next week:
Bethlehem Walk
St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 260 N. Northwest Hwy., will again host its Bethlehem Walk on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 3 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 2 from 3 to 7 p.m. The first floor of the church and school will be transformed into the town of Bethlehem at the time of Jesus’ birth. Visitors, with assistance from shepherd guides, will walk through the recreated town and interact with Biblical characters in costume, including the Holy Family, King Herod, Biblical prophets, the Three Wise Men and others. The annual St. Nick Party and bake sale will return to St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The festivities will take place in the Morello Parish Life Center at Washington and Summit Avenues. Children up to eighth-grade who visit Santa can bring an unwrapped gift, approximately $10 in value, that will be given to a local charity assisting needy families.
Holiday Puppet Show
The Park Ridge Public Library, 20 S. Prospect Ave., will present Roz Puppets’ “Ernie the Elf’s Holiday Song List” for all ages on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 2 to 2:45 p.m. in the first floor meeting room. To purchase tickets call (847) 825-3123.
Candles and Carols
St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 205 N. Prospect Ave., will begin the Advent season with its annual Candlelight Service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. Adult and children’s vocal choirs, instrumental ensembles and the chamber orchestra will lead the congregation in prayer and songs.
Gift-wrapping
Prairie Godmothers will demonstrate low-budget gift wrapping for the holidays using recycled papers, ribbons and boxes during an event at the Park Ridge Public Library, 20 S. Prospect Ave., on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. This presentation will take place in the first floor meeting room.
Candy Cane Lane
Candy Cane Lane, a store for children to purchase holiday gifts, will be held at the Maine Park Leisure Center, 2701 Sibley Ave., on Thursday, Dec. 6 and Friday, Dec. 7 from 3 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Visit Santa
Santa Claus will again be hearing Christmas wish lists at Golf Mill Shopping Center in Niles through Dec. 24. Santa’s Depot is located in the Center Court from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.~.
