NILES — Niles Police estimate that a Park Ridge man was driving “no less than 100 mph” just before his car was pulled over and he was charged with driving under the influence.

Police said Michael Tunzi, 32, of 2150 Bouterse, was driving east on Oakton Street at 4 a.m., Jan. 13 when he passed a westbound Niles squad car at a high rate of speed.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on Tunzi’s black BMW X5 near Harlem and Birchwood Avenues and detected a strong odor of alcohol on the driver, according to police.

Tunzi was later taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, speeding over 40 mph above the speed limit, reckless driving and driving without proof of insurance. He has a Feb. 5 court date.
