Feb. 7 debate to include aldermanic candidates

Updated: March 1, 2013 7:12AM

PARK RIDGE — Mayor David Schmidt said a town hall forum he had proposed will go on as scheduled, despite the absence of his opponent in the mayoral race.

Larry Ryles has declined to participate in the debate, which will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Park Ridge Senior Center, 100 S. Western Ave.

As a result, Schmidt said he alone will address those in attendance and take questions. Candidates for alderman also have been invited to answer audience-generated questions.

Aldermanic candidates expected to participate include Nicholas Milissis in the 2nd Ward; Roger Shubert and Jane Johnson in the 4th Ward; and Marc Mazzuca and Vincent LaVecchia in the 6th Ward. George Korovilas is unable to attend, Schmidt said.

The forum is open to the community.

Both Schmidt and Ryles are expected to take part in a future mayoral date hosted by the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce on March 13. According to Gail Haller, executive director of the Chamber, the candidates have accepted an invitation to debate during a Chamber luncheon at the Park Ridge Country Club.
