PARK RIDGE — Park Ridge Police have arrested a teenager accused of trying to grab the purse of a woman who was walking along a busy roadway.
Nikolas Tselikis, 18, of 824 E. Old Willow Rd., Prospect Heights, was charged with felony attempted robbery in connection with the incident which occurred on the afternoon of Jan. 17 near the intersection of Higgins Road and Cumberland Avenue.
According to police, a 42-year-old Chicago woman was walking on the sidewalk along Higgins Road near Dominick’s at 12:45 p.m. when she was approached by a man, later identified as Tselikis, who attempted to grab her purse. As the woman struggled to hold onto her purse she and the man fell to the ground, police reported.
Park Ridge Deputy Police Chief Lou Jogmen said a 23-year-old Park Ridge man who saw the struggle approached to help the woman, causing the attempted robber to run away. A 24-year-old Chicago man who was driving by pulled into the driveway leading to the Dominick’s parking lot, got out of his car, jumped a fence separating the grocery store from the adjacent business to the west and ran after the suspect, Jogmen said.
The passerby was unable to catch up with the suspect, but a description of the vehicle the suspect was believed to have been driving, as well as license plate information, was provided to police by witnesses, leading to the arrest of Tselikis at his home on Jan. 29.
Tselikis remained in Cook County Jail this week with bond set at $40,000. His next court date is Feb. 13.
