Sponsored by the Office of Student Recruitment and Outreach, a tour of Oakton’s Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road, on May 8 will feature information about admission, career and transfer programs, financial aid, student services, and extracurricular activities. Oakton faculty, administrators, staff, and students will be available to answer questions.
Oakton offers associate degrees and certificate programs for students planning to move on to four-year colleges or universities, as well as those preparing for employment in a variety of careers. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the college is recognized by the Illinois Community College Board and is a member of the American Association of Community Colleges.

How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer (ART E36-02) – Learn how to select a wedding photographer by asking the right questions and determining what guarantees need to be in place. Course meets 7-9 p.m. May 7 at Niles North High School, 9800 Lawler Ave. Skokie. Course fee is $25.
Digital Camera Basics (ART C79-04) – Get the most out of your digital camera by learning the basics as well as some handy tips and tricks. Session meets 7-9:30 p.m. May 8 at the Prairie View Center, 6834 W. Dempster St., Morton Grove. Course fee is $25.
Garden Photography (ART E15-03) – Learn to create wonderful images of a garden, from close-up studies of individual flowers to shots of the entire garden. Session meets 7-9 p.m. May 9 at the Prairie View Center. Course fee is $25.
Selling Your Home in This Market (REL E17-02) – This seminar will cover legal perspectives, the selling process, and how to prepare a home in today’s market. Session meets 7-9 p.m. May 9 at Niles North High School. Course fee is $25.

Tech students
earn top honors
Oakton’s chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals earned top honors at the AITP National Conference held March 29-31 in San Antonio.
In the Student Web Project Contest, the team of Robyn Alexander (Glenview), Elena Papastefan (Morton Grove), and Scott Andrews and Patrick Keenan (both of Park Ridge) captured first place, finishing ahead of eight other contenders from around the nation. The competition involved building a website for a nonprofit organization. Oakton’s winning entry was for the Lombard Juniors Women’s Club.
AITP, a professional organization of information technology business professionals, has more than 200 student chapters throughout the United States.
