Letter to the editor: Support for District 207 foundation appreciated

Updated: April 9, 2012 4:47PM

As the District 207 Educational Foundation prepares for its annual Benefit Dinner, it has much for which to be thankful.

Previous donations by community members, alumni, local businesses, parents, and teachers have made it possible to award grants which benefitted students at Maine South, West, and East in a wide variety of ways.

Just to name a few, the fabulous new glass mosaic that graces the main staircase at Maine West was funded, in part, by a Foundation grant. The Maine South Constitution Team, preparing to compete in Washington, D.C. is another grant recipient. Judy Tyler, advisor to the Gifted Lyceum at Maine East, will once again be leading a group of students this summer to help rebuild the homes of storm victims. We want to thank the talented and dedicated teachers at Maine South, West, and East- Andrew Trenkle, Erin Osmus and Erin Wilen, Judy Tyler, and others—who strive every year to make their students’ experience both meaningful and challenging.

We also want to thank the many donors to the District 207 Educational Foundation. To those who attend our benefit dinner, or those who contribute online we extend our heartfelt thanks. This year in particular, we are grateful for two very generous donations. Dr. Michael Kuehl, a 1957 Maine East graduate, provided the District 207 Educational Foundation with $10,000 to enhance students’ attention toward public health issues. In addition, Mr. David Hiller, also a Maine East graduate, made a $10,000 donation to the Foundation-sponsored School Based Health Center, staffed by Lutheran General Hospital and located at Maine East.

We thank these two alumni most heartily, and urge other alumni, parents and community members to support the District 207 Educational Foundation by attending our Benefit Dinner from 6-9 p.m. April 12 at The Rosewood. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online at www.maine207foundation.org. All donations to the District 207 Educational Foundation are tax-deductible, and can also be made at our website, www. maine207foundation.org.
