Morton Grove Library Treasurer Catherine Peters houses her horse Fideles “Fido”at the Freedom Woods Equestrian Center, 9501 N. Austin Ave., Morton Grove.

The center boards, trains, holds summer camps and has hippotherapy sessions for those with unique challenges to help with development through the therapeutic uses of a horse. Fido is a Friesian Horse from the Netherlands. Peters and her husband were on a trip in Viana when she first saw a drill team of Friesian horses and something inside brought tears to her eyes when she saw how beautiful and well-mannered the horses were.

Fido was shipped to the United States from the Netherlands as cargo on United Airlines when he was 3 years old. Peters has had him since he came to the United States and he is now 12 years old. Fido has been a joy and a loving companion Animal to Peters, she said.

“For me it is more important to have a horse that is beautiful on the inside and Fido is just as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside,” Peters said.
