Last month Andrew Cameron began a new chapter in his life of faith: he was one of 14 men to be ordained Catholic deacons within the Chicago Archdiocese following four years of study and service. On Sunday, June 2, the Park Ridge resident was officially welcomed into his new role at his long-time parish, St. Paul of the Cross, with an ordination celebration during the noon mass.

For the last four years, St. Paul of the Cross Church in Park Ridge has become a gathering place on Sunday nights for those in need of a good, hot meal and, for some, a little bit of companionship. Beginning in 2009 as a response to a thwarted attempt the previous year to open a weekly Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) site at the parish, the Park Ridge Ministerial Association’s Sunday Suppers have grown to serve more than 100 people each week with dozens of volunteers representing churches, businesses, clubs and civic organizations donating their time and their food. …

Park Ridge Police chief looks into trash-scavenger crackdown

Park Ridge Police Chief Frank Kaminski is exploring new ways to regulate what has become a booming business, but one that is also taken advantage of by thieves: trash scavenging. After receiving phone calls from residents who have complained about scavengers taking items that were clearly not meant for the garbage truck, Kaminski discussed the issue with city department heads on June 10 and plans to research what, if any, measures area communities have taken. That research may involve a survey administered by the Northwest Municipal Conference. One option the police chief says he supports is passing a local ordinance …
