Women’s Basketball: Oakton stays on roll with blowout victory

The Oakton College women’s basketball team cruised to a 75-49 victory over College of Lake County on Jan. 19, improving to 14-4 overall and 3-1 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play.

Two days prior, the Raiders defeated Morton College 51-50 in a game that went down to the wire. Oakton trailed 50-47 with 50 seconds remaining in regulation, but a basket by sophomore forward Bridget Aykroid (Luther North) cut the deficit to 50-49. Aykroid then stole the ball on the ensuing possession, leading to a pair of free throws by freshman guard Amber Patterson-Moss (Thornton Fractional North) with 10.2 seconds left for the winning margin.

Patterson-Moss paced the Raiders with 20 points.

Men’s basketball

Oakton snapped a six-game losing streak with a 79-76 win over College of Lake County on the road Jan. 19.

Freshman guard Giovanni Bray (Hamilton HS, Milwaukee) carried the Raiders (4-11, 1-3) with 19 points.

Men’s track

Oakton sophomore Martin Chavez (Maine West) placed second in the 800-meter run during the Rocky Rocco Indoor Invitational, held at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday.

Chavez finished the race in 1:59.62.
