Maine West’s 16-0 run to close out the first half led to a decisive 59-41 Central Suburban North win over Maine East on Friday.
The Warriors (10-9, 4-3) were led by the sharp shooting of Connor Hart (24) and Kevin Garcia (13).
The Demons (4-14, 0-7) were tied with Maine West at 19 at the four-minute mark of the second quarter before Maine West took control. Maine West was 9 of 15 from the foul line in the first half, while Maine East went 0-for-2.
“That was our goal tonight, to drive to the basket,” said Maine West coach Eric McNeil. “I was hoping that we would attempt 15 free throws and we ended up with a lot more. Hart was exceptionally aggressive driving to the hoop and did well from the line.”
“It’s been the same story all season long, we play close to our opponent and then we fall into a scoring lull,” said Maine East coach David Genis. “It’s time to bring some of our underclassman up to the varsity and I did that with freshman Abby George, who played almost the entire game and did very well.”
Aaron Shannon scored 10 for Maine East.
