Wrestling: Calkins, Pascoe punch tickets to State Finals
WRESTLING: Maine South’s Terry Calkin took third place at 120 pounds in the Glenbard North Sectional on Saturday while Niles North’s Camerin Pascoe finished fourth at 220 pounds. Both wrestlers advance to next weekend’s State Finals at University of Illinois’ Assembly Hall in Champaign.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Niles North (16-7, 6-3) bounced back from two straight losses in emphatic fashion, crushing Maine East 82-36 in Park Ridge. The Blue Demons dropped to 4-19, 0-9.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS: Haleigh Sir expects a lot from herself. That’s why the Maine South junior sounded slightly disappointed in her performance at last week’s Stevenson Regional, even though she advanced automatically to the Niles North Sectional in three events, including all-around.
Boys Swim: Maine South will wait to rest until after CSL South meet
BOYS SWIM: As a freshman, Tom Larocca was asked to fill in and swim the 200-yard individual medley. The Maine South junior now is the Hawks’ best in the IM and will swim the event Saturday at the CSL South meet at Evanston and again at the Glenbrook North Sectional.

WRESTLING: Maine South junior Terry Calkins is an accomplished veteran of IHSA postseason wrestling, and his demeanor and results reflect that experience. The 120-pounder, who reached the Class 3A state tournament as a sophomore, looks well on his way to a return after his dominant performance at Saturday’s Niles West Regional, where he defeated Elk Grove’s Joe Hauser 12-3 in the title match.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Two days after learning its seed and assignment at the Lyons Sectional, Trinity went out and beat one of the top teams in the Chicago area Saturday at the Sweet 16 tournament at Lake Zurich. The No. 3-ranked Blazers, who landed the second seed behind No. 1-ranked Young, overcame a sluggish start to earn a 44-30 victory over No. 8 Maine South, the top seed at the New Trier Sectional.
